On June 10, 2009, Bill Fox, the former Executive Director of CPIR traveled to Washington D.C. to testify before the Federal Coordinating Council on Comparative Effectiveness Research (CCCE). The listening session gathered important voices from across the country to give public comment on how $1.1 Billion Dollars in ARRA money targeted on CER should be spent. CPIR was invited to testify because of the crucial role the patient’s voice must play in the effective implementation of CER.

The panel was very responsive to the views expressed by CPIR, asking a number of follow up questions regarding how to hard wire the patient into the process. The panel clearly understood that without the ability to effectively communicate the results of CER to patients, and to measure the patients understanding of that communication, money spent on CER is simply wasted.
